Nuclear Regulatory Review and Nature

I have received a number of emails about the impact of the Nuclear Regulatory Review and concerns for the protection of nature and wildlife in this context.

The UK’s nuclear sector is a significant component in our energy infrastructure and forms an important part of the Government’s ambition to end reliance on costly fossil fuels and deliver energy security for the future. The cost-effective and timely delivery of these programmes is therefore an important consideration, especially in light of current global instability and its impact on the viability of energy imports.

However, this goal must be achieved alongside, and not at the expense of, the protection of nature and wildlife. I will pay close attention to the development of this as the policy develops.
