I’m proud to be the MP for Vauxhall and Camberwell Green.

I remember the relief when my mother got the keys to her house on the Barrier Block Estate in Brixton.

We had been stuck in temporary accomodation near King’s Cross, having to travel between places with our things in suitcases and bin bags.

Getting our home meant that we had somewhere to put our roots down, to be part of a community.

Sadly, I know that many families in that situation today will not get the relief of a permanant roof over their head for years, and will be left voiceless in our system.

That is why I stood for office, for Brixton Hill on Lambeth Council in 2006, for Lambeth & Southwark on the London Assembly in 2016 and for Vauxhall in the House of Commons in 2019.

And in September 2024, I was delighted to be elected as Chair of the Housing, Communites and Local Government Select Committee.

As Chair of this Committee and MP for Vauxhall and Camberwell Green, I have made it my mission to stand up for those who feel that politics is done to them rather than by them, for those who can’t get the NHS appointments they need, those suffering from injustices in work and life, those suffering from skyrocketing rents and unacceptable conditions under the housing crisis.

As your voice, I will continute to do this and for you to have the safety and security you need.
