Changes to business rates

I welcome the government’s announcement to provide support to pubs through changes to business rates. It is important that we support businesses through these difficult financial times and pubs are an important third space and cornerstone for so many communities.

That being said, I can understand frustrations with the fact that these changes only apply to pubs. The financial pressures faced by pubs will also affect other businesses across Vauxhall & Camberwell Green like gyms, hotels and restaurants and it is vital that these remain viable into the future. I know that gyms are an important space for many to nurture their physical and mental health and that we should do all we can to ensure they are able to keep providing this service.

I will be passing these concerns on to Ministers in the Treasury.
